Our Vision
What is the project?
Privateer Gaming are excited to announce that we are looking to create a new layer of grassroots Esports to the UK scene. We are looking for confident Esports fans who can take their love of gaming to the next generation and inspire a new wave of top Esports playing and broadcasting talent.
Using the Nintendo Switch as a suitable console for teenagers, Privateer Gaming will be facilitating Esports and gaming sessions run by one of our amazing coaches to bring Esports to everyone in the UK irrespective of their backgrounds. Initially we want to use school friendly games such as Splatoon, Super Smash Bros and Rocket League to be launchpad games in our sessions! With further expansion into Mario Kart, EA FC and other titles depending on demand in schools. We see this new project as the foundation for the Esports ecosystem we wish to create in the UK (shown in the diagram). This project will allow Esports fans to come together in safe environments to play games in person and feel part of a community. In a world where isolation amongst young people is on the rise we feel it is more important than ever to start bringing purely online activities into the real world and allow young people to forge real friendships.
In addition to this Privateer Gaming will be creating a space that is age appropriate for Esports fans. Current events and competitions in many game titles are not suitable for school aged children meaning they are not able to experience the thrill of a local gaming group or a LAN tournament event. We are working hard to change this!
Responsibilities of Coaches
Arrive at sessions on time and establish a positive relationship with everyone they encounter.
Take a register for each session.
Create a positive atmosphere where enjoyment and social interaction are at the heart of the experience.
Deliver the pre-planned curriculum, making any suitable adaptations for each group they will work with. E.g Prior relationships in each group will vary so ensuring activities include everyone at all times is essential and no one is left out due to no previous relationship with other group members.
Complete a DBS check form before delivering any sessions. A DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service check) is a background screening used in England and Wales to check an individual's criminal record. Employers request these checks during the hiring process to ensure a candidate is safe and suitable for a specific role, particularly those working with children or vulnerable adults. This is called an AccessNI check in Northern Ireland and a Disclosure Scotland check in Scotland.
You do not need an in-depth knowledge of each game you will be coaching before applying. We will provide training to support you in your sessions.
Participants from our sessions will benefit in the following ways:
Feel part of a community and increase social opportunities for those who do not feel that traditional extracurricular clubs meet their needs.
Learn from a carefully constructed curriculum which shares insight on career opportunities in Esports, how to balance gaming and a healthy lifestyle and bespoke coaching sessions which show young people how they can improve in their chosen games.
In order to make this amazing project happen we are always looking for confident Esports enthusiasts who are able to take on flexible work with young people and deliver a pre-planned curriculum.
You do not need to be a tech specialist or a top 1% competitor to change the lives of young people in Esports. All we require is a passionate and confident positive role model, who wants to make a difference in the Esports world!
Responsibilities of Privateer Gaming
Make contact with schools and youth groups that are near each coach to run sessions in.
Manage sign ups and ensure that all participants are vetted and vouched for by their school or youth group to ensure only eager and non-disruptive games are allowed into our sessions to maintain a positive atmosphere.
Purchase devices and games which will be delivered to coaches so they can deliver sessions.
Create an informative and easy to deliver curriculum for each session. Check in with each coach and make sure they are comfortable with the curriculum providing clarity and support when requested.
Paying coaches on time for their session and travel expenses (if incurred)
Pay the DBS check cost for all coaches.
Pay for a safeguarding course for each of our coaches.
“My name is Adam,
I am a founder here at Privateer Gaming and I did this exact job for a social enterprise in Northern Ireland before I moved to England to become a Secondary School teacher. This was a very daunting role at first but I quickly looked forward to every session I ran because I could see the difference I was making for the young people who came to our sessions. Each school I worked in had its own story and reason why it was so rewarding to run.In school A they had a large SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) population that did not feel at home in traditional sports teams but they came to the Esports club with such enthusiasm. School B was situated in an area of intense socio-economic deprivation and many of the young people came to the sessions in order to access games that they could not play at home. Lastly, School C was in a very rural area and did not have many clubs other than traditional sports and music that allowed the young people there to mix with others from an urban background. In Northern Ireland all these schools came together at the end of the year to compete in a nationwide Esports competition, it was a very rewarding year of my life. I look back very fondly and now I want others to be able to find their confidence and make a real difference in the Esports space.”
